FAQ

What’s included in the cost of the PGL trip?

Everything your school or group needs is included in the cost of the camp at Boreatton Park, with accommodation, activities, equipment, food and drinks all covered in the price per person!

What happens in the evenings?

The fun doesn’t stop after the day’s activities! After dinner, our evening entertainment programme will keep your class or group amused until  it’s time for bed. We’ve got discos, campfires, quizzes and loads more! We want to create a schedule perfect for your group, so if you have anything in particular then just let us know and we’ll do our best to plan it into your group’s itinerary!

What should I pack for my child's overnight stay?

Firstly, let’s talk clothes. Your child will be taking part in a range of different activities at Boreatton Park, so they’ll need some tops and trousers/leggings that are okay to take on a day of adventure activities.

We also advise that you pack some waterproofs, both for weather and activity reasons. It’s impossible to confidently predict the weather, so bringing a waterproof to camp just keeps your child covered if it does rain. We have a range of water-based activities that your child can get involved with too at Boreatton Park, such as Canoeing and Stand Up Paddleboarding, so a waterproof is perfect for keeping dry (if they can stay afloat!).

If your child is coming with their sports group, then don’t forget their sports kit for use at our sports playing fields.

In the evening, your child will be enjoying quizzes, discos and more, so don’t forget to pack some clothes to keep dry for the end-of-the-day activities.

Finally, toiletries such as shower gel, shampoo, a toothbrush and toothpaste, and a towel are also worth packing. For an entire list of everything you need, please see our packing guide.

Does my child need waterproofs for their residential trip?

Yes, your child will need waterproofs to keep dry when it’s raining, and for taking part in some of our water-based activities. A waterproof coat/jacket is great for keeping dry when canoeing, unless the vessel overturns of course!

Does my child need to bring money?

There’s no requirement for your child to bring any money, but they can if they wish to buy a souvenir from our gift shop then they can. We recommend about £10 per child, in cash or on a pre-paid card. Our gift shops have badges to show that your child’s group have been to PGL as well as a range of other goodies like t-shirts, water bottles, pens, mugs and more!

Can I contact my child during their camp stay?

Yes. If your child is bringing a mobile phone then they can contact you or you can call them during free time. These times are clearly set out in our Mobile Phone Policy. If your child would like to speak to you and they haven’t got a mobile phone or would like to contact you during activity times, then they can ask a member of the PGL team and they’ll help to organise a phone call home. You’re also able to contact the team at Boreatton Park if you need to send a message to your child or contact them urgently, as well as any contact number that your child’s group leader has provided.

Do you cater for special dietary requirements?

Yes, at PGL we regularly provide meals for a wide variety of needs including coeliac, diabetic, food allergies and vegetarian/vegan.
If a child or anybody in your group has any dietary requirements, whether for religious, cultural or medical reasons, just let us know when you book so we can make sure they’re catered for. All of our catering staff have received food allergy and food hygiene training.

What safety measures are in place at Boreatton Park?

We have a huge emphasis on safety, starting with the recruitment of our staff and continuing through to all of our activities. As a founder member of BAPA (British Activity Providers Association) and a licence holder for activities in scope of AALA (Adventure Activities Licencing Authority) regulations, we make safety our priority.

A risk assessment has also been carried out at Boreatton Park, with risks being outlined and managed. The risk assessment covers the grounds of Boreatton Park, as well as all of the activities available at the centre.

Our Activity Instructors are experts in their area, trained and assessed both in-house and by external assessors. They’ll be there during every activity to make sure they’re completed safely and correctly.

New staff complete a comprehensive induction and job specific training followed by regular observations, feedback, reviews and assessments.

Is there parking available at Boreatton Park?

Yes, at Boreatton Park there are car parking facilities available on-site.
